The C&W Rail Trail is one of the most popular sections of The Great Trail. From Midway to Castlegar there are sweeping views of the Granby Valley, Lower Arrow valleys, and so much more. There are tunnels and trestles – oh my! The rail trail has a variety of surfaces, and mountain bikes, hybrids, ebikes or fat bikes are recommended, especially on the shared use sections.
There are many remote multi-day sections, carry all supplies including drinking water. The trail is popular for multi-day bikepacking, out & back daytrips, or arrange a shuttle for a one-way adventure. There is less elevation gain when traveling east to west. For a one-way downhill take a shuttle to Paulson or Farron and ride downhill into Cascade Falls.
We enjoyed riding from Grand Forks through Gilpin Grasslands Provincial Park, to Cascade Falls and over the Cascade trestle.
