La Lunga Via delle Dolomiti—The Long Way of the Dolomites—is a popular cycling route through Italy’s spectacular mountain landscapes. Following the path of the historic Dolomites Railway, the trail winds through the UNESCO World Heritage region, offering a smooth, scenic ride. Part of the larger Munich–Venice Cycle Route, it’s perfect for families, recreational riders, and e-bike users. Ride through alpine villages, lush valleys, and dramatic peaks on one of the most scenic bike routes in Europe.

Highlights Along the Way
- Dobbiaco/Toblach – Arrive by train and start your ride – bike rentals and supplies are available in town.
- Tre Cime Viewpoint – Stop for views of the iconic Three Peaks of Lavaredo, one of the Dolomites’ most famous sights. The UNESCO World Heritage marker frames the view.
- Cortina d’Ampezzo – A lively mountain town and a great lunch stop about halfway along. Another option – stay in Cortina and take day trips along the best sections.
- Forests, tunnels, and bridges – Ride through shady forests, cross high bridges and coast through mountain tunnels—reminders of the route’s railway past.



- Old Railway Stations – Many of the former stations along the trail have been turned into cafés, museums, or unique homes.



Tips for the ride:
- Best Northern Section: Cortina d’Ampezzo to the Unesco Site and Tre Cime viewpoint
- Best Southern Section: Cortina d’Ampezzo to Tai de Cadore.
- One Way Ride? Ride from Dobbiaco to Calalzo and drop off your bike at the end. Book ahead with Papin Sport or CCT Bike Rental.
- Bus Return Options: Check routes and schedules with Cortina Express or Flix Bus
