‘Cool’ Summer Rides

Beat the heat and enjoy some ‘cool’ rides this summer. Here’s a few of my favourite shady, cool rides …

The Stanley Park Seawall is one of the most popular rides in Vancouver, but when it’s hot hot hot, try the forest trails inside the park especially Lovers Trail, Beaver Lake Trail and the Bridle Trail – Rawlings Loop. And the trails are a great way to get to the beaches!

Head up to the Seymour Valley for a shady cool ride through the forest, one of the easiest rides in the book! Pacific Spirit Park has dozens of forest trails to explore.

Visit the TriCities! Take the skytrain out to Port Moody enjoy the new Shoreline Trail, bring a picnic for Old Orchard Park and take a dip in the inlet! At Belcarra Park the Springboard Trail is a great shady forest trail.

South Surrey has some great shady trails, try the Semiahmoo Trail or visit Crescent Beach on the South Surrey Shores. The Delta Watershed is also a favourite cool shady route. In Chilliwack the Vedder River Loop is a scenic forested loop around the river — one of my favourite rides in the book.

Whistler’s Valley Trail is a shady easy route through the forests around the village and neighbourhoods. Bring a bathing suit and picnic lunch and visit 5 Lakes on this cool ride!

• A hot summer’s day hack: Use your Let’s Go Biking neck warmer as a neck cooler!
